Gabriel Borba Filho

(São Paulo, 1942)

Gabriel Borba, graduated in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo (FAU USP), he migrated to the plastic arts, and in the early 1970s while working as the assistant to Vilém Flusser in the chair of Communication Theory, at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP) in São Paulo, he began to experiment with video art becoming one of the pioneers of video art in Brazil. His paintings “Serie Carnavalesca” accompany the series of articles titled “Posto Zero” which Flusser published in the newspaper A Folha de São Paulo in 1972. He actively participated in the dynamic experimentalism of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo (MAC USP), during Walter Zanini's administration, He has taught Visual Arts at the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo (ECA USP) and also Visual Communication and Industrial Design at the Catholic University of Campinas (PUC Campinas), SP, and is considered an authority on the Sao Paulo art scene of the 1970s and 1980s.
