Jesse Antunes Torres

Jessé Antunes Torres is a Ph.D. candidate in Language Sciences in Brazil, at the Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina (UNISUL). His line of research is Language and Culture. In Brazil he was granted a scholarship from the Brazilian agency Fundação Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) for full-time dedication to the Ph.D., and then a second scholarship from the Programa Doutorado-Sanduíche no Exterior CAPES to undertake a research internship of 10 months at the Vilém Flusser Archive, Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK). He has published essays on Flusser’s work on the journals Santa Barbara Portuguese Studies and Flusser Studies. He is a member of the Research Group Estética e Política na Contemporaneidade (EPOCA) [Aesthetics and Politics in Contemporaneity], and a pro bono graphic designer of journal Memorare (UNISUL). He holds a Master degree in Language Sciences also by UNISUL. During the master he researched at the Arquivo Vilém Flusser São Paulo’s (PUC-SP) on-line collection. Bachelor’s degree in Journalism by Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC). He was awarded the Rumos Cultural Journalism Prize 2009–2010 from Instituto Itaú Cultural.
